In its simplest form, garlic bread is butter or olive oil with chopped garlic cloves on bread.
My recipe is a little more than that. It calls for two of types of cheeses infused with two dried herbs. The crispy corners of the baked to perfection bread and the soft butter soaked insides of this appetizer is an easy to make favorite in my house.
Ingredients
Fresh Baguette ……………1 medium size
Butter ………………………..1/2 cup softened
Garlic Cloves ………………5-6 cloves finely chopped
Garlic Salt ………………….1/2 teaspoon
Dry Oregano ……………….1/2 teaspoon
Dry Chives …………………..1/2 teaspoon
Red Chili Flakes …………..1/2 teaspoon
Parmesan Cheese …………1/2 cup freshly grated
Mozzarella Cheese ……….1/4 cup shredded
Salt …………………………….seasoning
Suggestion
- You can make this mixture and preserve it air tight for over a month in the refrigerator.
- Fresh parsley leaves can be used instead of the dried herbs.
- Parmesan cheese and/or mozzarella cheese can be avoided to cut down on calories.
- If you do not want to wait to soften the butter you can substitute it with olive oil.
Method
- Let the butter sit out in room temperature for a while. Do not melt it in direct heat. We are trying to soften it.
- Add the parmesan cheese, chopped garlic cloves, dried herbs (oregano and chives), garlic salt, salt and red chili flakes to the butter.
- Cut the baguette into desired sized pieces.
- Spread the creamy mixture on them.
- If you want a cheesy garlic bread just add the shredded mozzarella cheese on the baguettes.
- Bake in oven for 8-10 minutes. Not more than that.
- Serve hot as it is or with a saucy pasta.
