Quesadillas (pronounced as qesadyas) are cheesy tortilla sandwiches that originated from Mexico. People have come up with their own variations on this dish over the years. It is a full meal dish that is sometimes also served as an appetizer. Some have even gone to the heights of adapting this savory dish to satisfy their sweet tooth by adding caramel, chocolate, fruits and berries.
Ingredients
Soft Tacos/Tortilla Wraps (white flour/corn flour) ……..1 small pack
Chicken boneless …………………………………………………..250 gms
Garlic Paste ………………………………………………………….2 teaspoons
Chilli powder (optional) ………………………………………….1 teaspoon
Diced Capsicum (Bell pepper)……………………………………1 cup
Black Olives …………………………………………………………..1 cup
Old El Paso Salsa …………………………………………………….1/2 cup
Shredded Cheddar Cheese ………………………………………..1 cup
Substitutes:
- Corn Tortillas give you an authentic taco flavour relative to the white flour tacos.
- Pita breads can also be used.
- You can use Chicken / Beef / Fish Fillet as your filling.
- If you do not want to make salsa or it is not readily available to you chop onions n tomatoes finely and season it with salt and lemon juice.
- Cheddar Cheese can be substituted with Jack Cheese as well.
- For weight watchers … you can make do without the cheese all together.
Method
- Dice the chicken and cook it or shred it once cooked. Season it with salt and garlic. Add chili powder if you prefer to do so.
- Meanwhile, cup the capsicum/ prepare your salsa/ shred the cheese.
- Take one tortilla and start filling it on one side as shown in the image below.
- Fold it in half to form a semi- circle.
- Use a shallow pan or tawa leave it on low heat.
- Place the filled tortilla on the pan and let it toast for a minute. Low heat is essential here. The tortillas are already cooked. You do not want to burn them.
- Flip it over carefully so that the filling does not fall out. Let it toast on this side for a minute as well.
- Take it off the heat.
- Cut into desired sized pieces and serve hot with a nacho cheese sauce or sour cream.
